NIA raids in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh

The agency has reportedly seized Maoist literature, laptops, memory cards, pen drives and some correspondence with underground Maoists during their searches.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday morning launched simultaneous searches at 14 locations in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh in cases related to furtherance of banned CPI (Maoist) activities, NIA officials confirmed in New Delhi.

In Hyderabad, teams are searching the residences of surrendered top Maoist leader Ravi Sharma and women’s rights activist Bhavani in Nagole. Another team is raiding the house of the martyr’s relatives and friend committee leader Padma Kumari.

Another team of NIA was also conducting searches on Osmania University student leader Arunakalatha at Bagalingampalli.

sources told Hindu The central agency was conducting raids after the recent encounter in the forests of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra. On November 14, 27 Maoists, including CPI (Maoist) Central Committee member and recruitment in-charge of Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh region, Milind Teltumbde, were gunned down by C-60 commandos in anti-Maoist operations.

In Alakurapadu in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district, the NIA raided the residence of Kalyan Rao, a senior member of the Revolutionary Writers’ Association (Virasam). Rao is a relative of top mast leader Akkiraju Hargopal alias Ramakrishna alias RK, who died recently due to kidney failure.

State Joint Secretary of Pragatigya Karmika Samakhya (PKS) A. NIA is also raiding Annapurna alias Anita’s house in Visakhapatnam.

The agency has reportedly seized Maoist literature, laptops, memory cards, pen drives and some correspondence with underground Maoists during their searches, which are likely to continue till evening.
