NIOS Chairperson Saroj Sharma said: “NIOS has been successfully running the first Virtual Open School since last year. All the academic subjects so far offered to NIOS learners are also offered to the learners of virtual schools and there is flexibility in the choice of subjects. Enhanced virtual learning takes place by providing virtual classrooms. Virtual Lab is being used. Recorded sessions and videos are available as per the requirement for all courses. Live and interactive sessions are also organized. The cumulative enrollment of virtual schools of NIOS is at present 25 lakhs.
NIOS in a statement said: “With reference to certain media reports regarding the claims of India’s first virtual school being launched today. It is informed that the country’s first virtual school was launched by NIOS in August 2021.
To evaluate the progress of the students, there are assessments, exams and Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). According to Sharma, 2.18 lakh assignments/TMAs were uploaded by the learners in the first session of NIOS Virtual Open School in the academic year 2021. 4.46 Lakh Assignments/TMAs have been uploaded by NIOS learners in the recently completed academic session.
NIOS is also a pioneer in providing a digital library launched on 8th March, 2022 which is well equipped with 4000 journals including more than 12,000 e-resources (75 different academic subjects), periodicals and periodicals till date and 68,000 in a short span of time. has attracted visitors. of five months.
Presently there are more than 7,000 Study Centers affiliated to NIOS which are providing academic support and more than 1,500 Study Centers are assisting the learners of NIOS Virtual Open School in skill based vocational courses.
NIOS also introduced new courses last year which include Entrepreneurship, Military History, Malayalam and Sindhi Languages, Hindustani and Carnatic Music, five courses in Kannada medium, five in Assamese (like Business Studies, Mathematics and Data Entry Operations) and five (like Science & Technology, Social Science, Accounts) in Punjabi Medium.
