The Nissan Magnite subcompact SUV has been crash tested by Global NCAP. And the result is a capable 4-star rating for the popular model. Magnite arrived in India in late 2020. And the tested model is the base variant as is the case with all NCAP tests. The Nissan Magnite scored a decent 4-star for adult occupant safety with a maximum score of 11.85 on 17 points. The car was tested in a frontal offset crash test at a top speed of 64 kmph, and no side impact tests. The Nissan Magnite lost the lack of electronic stability control (ESC), a lap seatbelt instead of a three-point system for the rear middle passenger, and no side head impact protection as standard. Datsun is a subsidiary of Nissan, and its models are manufactured and marketed by Nissan India. The Magnite was originally designed and intended to be launched as the Datsun Go-Cross – hence the importance of its crash performance. Magnite’s twin car – the Renault Kieger – also achieved a similar result in the same type of test.
Despite a stable shell structure, the Magnite lost points for its lack of ESC, and for not having a 3-point seatbelt for the rear middle passenger and no side head impact protection as standard.

Global NCAP began testing cars manufactured in India in late 2013. Ever since the Safe Cars for India program started, Indian vehicle safety standards have increased. Dual front airbags are now required, from no airbags as standard, to a driver side airbag. Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently talked about proposing mandatory 6 airbags as a standard rule apart from adding other equipment like ESC in cars.
