New DelhiNitish Kumar took oath Chief minister of Bihar 8th time on 10th August after breaking the alliance with BJP on 9th August. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took charge of the post of Deputy CM. At the swearing-in ceremony, Nitish attacked the BJP and claimed that he did not want to become the chief minister in the year 2020 and was pressurized to do so.
Nitish Kumar took oath for the eighth time on Wednesday and said the NDA government at the Center led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to “worry” about its prospects in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Kumar had quit the BJP on Tuesday, before resigning and claiming to form a new government armed with the backing of “mahagathbandhan” (grand alliance).
The 71-year-old JD(U) leader first took oath as chief minister in 2000, when he headed the NDA government that lasted only a week. He was back in 2005, this time after his alliance secured an absolute majority in the assembly elections.
The NDA won a landslide victory in the assembly elections after five years under his leadership. Kumar stepped down in 2014, taking moral responsibility for the JD(U)’s defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, but returned less than a year later when he took oath for the fourth time.
In 2015, Kumar came back as CM with the Mahagathbandhan, comprising JD(U), RJD and Congress, securing a comfortable majority. He resigned in July 2017 citing irreconcilable differences with the RJD, and was sworn in again less than 24 hours later, when he formed a new government with the BJP.
Kumar was sworn in for the seventh time in November 2020, when the NDA retained power, though his own party saw a major drop in its tally, which he attributed to a “conspiracy” by the BJP.
