NIV Director in the Field for ICMR Head Job

New Delhi Government has received applications from 35 candidates for the post of Director General of the apex medical research body Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

They include: Prof. Priya Abraham, Director, NIV Pune, Dr. Sanghamitra Pati, Director, Regional Medical Research Center at Bhubaneswar, Dr. Padmapriyadarshini, Director, NIRT Chennai, Dr. Rajesh Sagar, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, AIIMS, and Dr. Sameer Bakshi, Professor of Oncology, AIIMS.

The Department of Health Research (DHR) had issued an advertisement in April inviting applications from medical scientists with proven track records of medical and biological health research and administration. The tenure of Dr Balram Bhargava, former DG of ICMR, ended on July 15. About 35 applications have been received. Now the government panel will soon send 3-4 names of eligible candidates to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for final approval,” said an official.

ICMR said, “The advertisement for the post of DG and Secretary-DHR was advised from the Department of Health Research (DHR) and application was received in DHR. The information will be available in the concerned (ED) department. Therefore, it is requested to approach the Department of Concern (ED).”

However, queries emailed to the Health Ministry and the Department of Health Research on Tuesday did not elicit any response till press time.

Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has been given additional charge as DG ICMR and Secretary, Department of Health Research till Bhargava’s successor is found.
