Navratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) NLC India Limited (NLCIL) is exploring the feasibility of creating a business model for production of green hydrogen. This is in line with the central government’s goal of creating a hydrogen economy in the country to support green energy security, Rakesh Kumar, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, NLCIL said here on Monday.

Mr. Kumar, who hoisted the tricolor at the Bharti Stadium on the occasion of Independence Day, said that NLCIL has registered impressive records on physical and financial fronts for the year 2021-22 and for the first quarter of 2022-23. The company’s consolidated net profit for the first quarter of 2022-23 stood at ₹568.83 crore, an increase of 59.07% over the previous year. During the first quarter, NLCIL power stations generated 6,963.03 MU, the highest ever since inception.

Noting that during 2021-22, NLCIL had contributed Rs 2,200 crore to the central and state exchequer, he said, adding that Tamil Nadu was the major beneficiary of PSU power plants, which accounted for a maximum of 55% of the total power generation. He said that the total power generation of NLCIL has now reached 6,061.06 MW and the mining capacity has increased to 52.60 million tonnes per annum.

Shri Kumar said that the business matrix of NLCIL has been integrated with optimum mix of thermal and renewable energy generation by diversifying into new initiatives. This included commercial mining, the installation of electric vehicle charging stations, the blending of lignite with coal, and underground coal gasification.

Chandrashekhar, senior officers, executives, employees and representatives of unions and unions of NLCIL participated in the function. The senior most employee of NLCIL, T. Raja, Technician Grade-I, Mines-II and his wife were felicitated by Mr. Kumar on the occasion.
