Thiruvananthapuram:

Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state and its new variant Omicron, Health Minister Veena George on Saturday said that as of now, there was no plan from the Kerala government to impose a complete lockdown.

The minister said that the complete lockdown will affect normal life in the state and urged people to remain vigilant.

He told the media, “The economic activities of our state and our people cannot be disrupted anymore. We should work together to avoid complete shutdown in the state. Right now we are not planning any lockdown. Huh.”

The minister said the quarantine protocol for those coming from abroad was decided based on the directions issued by the central government.

After almost a month, the number of COVID-19 cases in Kerala crossed 5,000 yesterday. On Friday, 5,296 new cases of corona virus were reported in the state and today the number has increased to 5,944.
