Bangalore (Karnataka) [India]October 2 (ANI): Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday took a dig at the Congress and said there was no need to talk about “fake Gandhi” on Gandhi Jayanti.
“Today is Gandhi Jayanti, why should I talk about fake Gandhi? Entire Congress party is out on bail- Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and DK Shivakumar are out on bail,” the CM said while reacting to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that the Karnataka government is the most corrupt government.
He further said that there was an ATM for Karnataka Congress party, it is gone now.
Taking a dig at the CM’s statement, the Karnataka Congress chief said that DK Shivakumar asked Bommai to be sent to jail and said that he would take rest in jail.
“Yes, I am out on bail. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are also out on bail. There are dozens of them (BJP) who are out on bail. No case against Yeddyurappa? Bommai filed cases against me. He should call me Parappan Agrahara (Central). Jail), I will take some rest,” Shivakumar said.
This came a day after a debate broke out between the two leaders over “PECM” T-shirts.
DK Shivakumar challenges the state government to take action against him and former CM Siddaramaiah for wearing “PECM” T-shirts, alleging that several party workers were made to wear the same T-shirt during the ‘Bharat Jodi Yatra’ was booked.
“Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah and I and other leaders wearing ‘PayCM’ T-shirts will participate in the Bharat Jodi Yatra. Let us see what the BJP will do,” Shivakumar told the report in Nanjangud.
He said that cases were registered against some Congress workers for wearing T-shirts with “Pay-CM” written on them during the march in Gundlupet.
“We are not afraid of it (cases),” he said.
On Saturday, a Congress worker was asked to remove a T-shirt bearing the “PayCM” poster during the Bharat Jodi Yatra and an FIR was also registered against him at the Chamarajanagar police station.
“PayCM” is an aggressive campaign launched by Congress against Basavaraj Bommai government alleging massive corruption. The PayCM campaign appears to have started on September 21, when posters featuring Bommai surfaced in Bengaluru. These posters had a QR code that read, “40 percent accepted here”.
Once scanned, the QR code will take people to the “40 percent commission government” website recently launched by Congress. People will be asked to register their complaints against the Chief Minister, if any.
The government has dismissed the allegations of Congress as politically motivated. “The government has sunk into 40% commission. All sections including farmers are upset. On one side there is corruption and unrest and on the other side there is the problem of farmers and unemployment. An atmosphere of fear has been created among the people,” alleged Shivakumar.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief accused the BJP of slander and baseless criticism as “our development is unbearable”. He said, ‘BJP is doing petty politics to divert the attention of the people. Even though he has dead rats on his plate, he is criticizing us. (ANI)
