Parents of some children said they would take out a protest march on Tuesday demanding the local administration to cancel the sealing of the school.

A private school was sealed by the Noida authority on Monday for non-payment of dues, even as parents of several students opposed the move, officials said. A Noida Authority official said the school, located in Sector 56, was allotted land in 1991 at a concessional price and had dues of around Rs 15 crore, for which several reminders had been sent. On the condition of anonymity, the official said, “Based on the previous notice for payment of dues and violation of rules, the premises of the Uttarakhand Public School were sealed on Monday.”

According to the official, the school, which has around 1,500 enrolled students, was allotted 3,350 square meters of land but the allotment was canceled in 2020 due to non-payment of dues. While there is no official response from the school yet, parents of several children protested against the move, leaving them stunned on Monday morning.

“We did not know that the school would be sealed. We were shocked when we found the sealing notice of Noida Authority pasted at the school gate this morning. Parents of some children said that they would take out a protest march on Tuesday demanding that the local administration cancel the sealing of the school.

While the parents said they were unaware of the school’s pending dues, the local authority official said the school was also served a notice last week to hand over the possession to the authority or face legal action.
