NOIDA: A 47-year-old man was on Friday arrested and booked under the stringent POCSO Act for allegedly raping his 12-year-old step-daughter in Noida.
The arrest came six months after the FIR was lodged at the Phase III police station on a complaint by the girl’s mother, officials said.
A police spokesperson said that the mother had lodged a complaint on September 1 last year that her daughter had gone missing, following which an FIR was registered under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code.
“The girl was recovered on September 4 last year, following which her statement was recorded and her medical examination was conducted, which suggested rape. IPC Section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses” The provisions of the (POCSO) Act were also added to the FIR thereafter,” said the spokesperson.
Police said that the absconding stepfather has been arrested on Friday and sent to judicial custody under the case.
