Officials said Sunday morning that the evacuation of about 5,000 residents of the two housing societies near the soon-to-be-demolished twin towers has been completed.

Police officials said the evacuation of residents from the Emerald Court and ATS Village Society was to be completed by 7 am, but it took a little longer.

Realty firm Supertech on Sunday said that the twin towers, to be demolished this afternoon, were constructed as per the building plan approved by the Noida development authorities and no deviations were made.

Supertech said the demolition of these two towers will not affect its other real estate projects, which will be offered to home buyers.

The nearly 100-metre-high Apex and Cayenne towers are scheduled to be demolished at 2.30 pm on Sunday in pursuance of a Supreme Court order that found their construction within the Emerald Court complex to be in violation of norms. More than 3,700 kg of explosives are being used in this operation.

“The Twin Towers Apex and Cayenne in Noida are a part of the Emerald Court project in Sector 93A, built on the land allotted by the Noida Authority. The construction plans of the project, including the two towers, were approved by the Noida Authority in 2009 in strict accordance with the then prevailing building bye laws declared by the state government, Supertech Ltd said in a statement.

He said that no deviation was made from the building plan and it was constructed after making full payment to the authority.

“However, the Hon’ble Supreme Court has found the construction not satisfactory on technical grounds and has accordingly issued orders for demolition of the two towers. We respect the orders of the Supreme Court and are committed to implement the same,” Supertech said. Told.

At least 40 stray dogs living in and around the Supertech twin towers in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida have been temporarily shifted to shelters run by NGOs ahead of the court-mandated demolition of buildings on Sunday.

An NGO has urged the authorities to conduct a dummy explosion or false firing just before the twin towers are brought down to save the birds in the area.

Several NGOs, including the House of Stray Animals, Friendiko’s, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the Happy Tales Foundation, have worked to temporarily accommodate stray dogs. – PTI

The supply of cooking gas and electricity to two societies in Sector 93A has also been cut off in view of the planned blast at 2.30 pm on Sunday, said an official overseeing the evacuation exercise.

Apart from the residents, their vehicles and pets have also been evacuated, the official said. However, some representatives of private security and residents’ groups would remain inside the societies till around 1 pm after which both the premises would be completely empty, the official said.

Around 500 police, traffic personnel deployed at the site

In addition to the Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), about 500 police and traffic personnel have been deployed in the vicinity of the Twin Towers.

DCP Rajesh S, who is the incident commander of the police to oversee the evacuation exercise, said, “Around 400 civilian police personnel were on demolition duty on Sunday.” DCP (Traffic) Ganesh Saha said 150 to 200 traffic personnel were also separately deployed at all important junctions to facilitate movement of vehicles in view of restrictions and diversions on various routes.

Mr Saha said his department was informing commuters about the changes and Google Maps was showing real-time updates on the diversion.
