Non-toxic substances worth Rs 3 crore seized in Tamil Nadu, one arrested

Amphet weighing 1.5 kg and worth Rs 3 crore was seized at the international airport in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai and one person was arrested at the spot. The Customs Department said on Wednesday that based on specific information, the Customs officials apprehended a person who arrived here from Guinea via Addis Ababa on February 12.

The hideous substance was concealed in the passenger’s luggage, which later turned out to be amfet, weighing 1,539 grams. In a statement, Principal Commissioner of Customs M Mathew Jolly said drugs worth Rs three crore were seized and examined under the relevant limits of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and the Customs Act, 1962.
