Noor Jahan’s daughter on Lata Mangeshkar: My mother loved Lataji’s Ae Dil-e-Nadan – Exclusive! – times of India

One of the most famous voices of Pakistan, noorjahan was highly respected for his singing ability Lata Mangeshkari was in India. Noor Jahan had a brief career in Indian films between 1942 and 1948, but was cut short by Partition and her choice of settling in Pakistan. Nazia further revealed that Noor Jahan and Lata Mangeshkar will meet on several occasions in London. She said, “While vacationing there they were able to meet several times in London. I had the privilege of seeing them together. There was warmth and respect and there were so many stories of old Mumbai and people that the mother had left behind. Mother would cook and remind for Lataji. Once I saw Lataji almost shy in front of her mother when she asked her to sing Ae Dil-e-Nadan, khayyam great creation of saab Razia Sultan, Mother asked him to sing for her. She loved the song—especially the silence—used within the composition.”

Like millions of people around the world, Noor Jahan was also a fan of Lataji’s talent. As Nazia reveals, “I remember, mother once said in an interview, ‘Lata lata hai’. Music lovers, all who hear Lataji’s golden voice mourn her – she will always be in our hearts.” I will remain in my life. I am very grateful to have all these great masters as the soundtrack of my life.”
