After the death of Lata Mangeshkar etimes Reached Noor Jahan’s daughter Nazia AijazuWho brought back memories of the time when his mother and Lataji used to meet and reminisce about the old days of Bombay. Nazia reveals, “Music knows no boundaries and it reaches straight to our hearts – and speaks to our souls. Lataji is in the hearts of all who heard her melodious voice. My mother, Madam Noor Jahan She had immense respect and affection for Lataji and appreciated her talent.”
Nazia further revealed that Noor Jahan and Lata Mangeshkar will meet on several occasions in London. She said, “While vacationing there they were able to meet several times in London. I had the privilege of seeing them together. There was warmth and respect and there were so many stories of old Mumbai and people that the mother had left behind. Mother would cook and remind for Lataji. Once I saw Lataji almost shy in front of her mother when she asked her to sing Ae Dil-e-Nadan, khayyam great creation of saab Razia Sultan, Mother asked him to sing for her. She loved the song—especially the silence—used within the composition.”
Like millions of people around the world, Noor Jahan was also a fan of Lataji’s talent. As Nazia reveals, “I remember, mother once said in an interview, ‘Lata lata hai’. Music lovers, all who hear Lataji’s golden voice mourn her – she will always be in our hearts.” I will remain in my life. I am very grateful to have all these great masters as the soundtrack of my life.”
