Nursery student raped in school, minister said – school management will be questioned

A three-and-a-half-year-old nursery student was allegedly raped inside the vehicle by her school bus driver in Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh. A police officer gave this information on Tuesday. The police have arrested the bus driver and a female attendant, who according to the child’s parents were present inside the vehicle at the time of the incident last Thursday, the official said.

When asked whether the school management allegedly tried to hide the matter, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said the role of the school administration would be probed and action would be taken accordingly. The school principal could not be contacted for comment in the matter.

The child, studying in a prominent private school in the city, was returning home after boarding a bus when the incident took place. After the girl returned, her mother noticed that someone had changed the clothes of the child with the spare set kept in her bag, the official said.

After this, the mother also questioned her daughter’s class teacher and the school principal, but both refused to change the child’s clothes. Later, the girl complained of pain in her private part. The police officer said that her parents took her into confidence and counseled her, after which she told them that the bus driver misbehaved with her and even changed her clothes.

The official said the parents went to the school the next day to complain to the authorities and the child identified the driver. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhi Saxena said that the girl’s parents lodged a police complaint on Monday following which an investigation was launched. Police said that a female attendant was present inside the bus as per the complaint lodged by the child’s parents at the time of the incident.

The ACP said that the bus driver and the lady attendant have been arrested. He said a case has been registered under section 376-AB of the Indian Penal Code (rape of a girl below 12 years of age) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

He said the police were trying to ascertain the exact place of the incident. The medical report of the victim is awaited, the official said.

MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra told reporters that after the complaint, both the accused have been arrested. When asked whether the school management tried to hide the matter, the minister said, the role of the school administration will also be probed. The people of the school management will be questioned. I also believe that the school management tried to hide the matter. He said that after questioning and investigation, action will also be taken against the school management. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress media department in-charge KK Mishra sought the resignation of minister Narottam Mishra, claiming that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated and girls and women are not safe under the BJP rule in the state.
