Odisha: Driver arrested with cash van carrying Rs 57 lakh Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Police team from Khariar has reached Nagpur to take the accused driver on transit remand.

BHUBANESWAR: The driver who fled on Wednesday with Rs 57 lakh kept in a cash van from SBI’s main branch at Khariyar in Odisha’s Nuapada district was caught by the police from Nagpur on Thursday night while walking near a brothel with Rs 2 lakh.
A police team has reached Nagpur from Khariar to take the guilty driver on transit remand.
The driver has been identified as Jairam Manjhi alias Labu, who was temporarily working in the cash van in place of the permanent driver, who was on leave citing fever. After loading the cash on Wednesday, he took the cash van.
Rajesh Pandit, Deputy Inspector General (South-Western Range) confirmed that the driver was nabbed by the Nagpur Police. “Our police team has reached Nagpur. Further inquiry is on. He will be brought on transit remand after being produced in a court there.
According to the police, Manjhi sometimes worked in Nagpur and knew some people there. “He chose Nagpur because he could hide money with some distant relatives. Since his escape with the cash van was covered by television channels, the footage was available on YouTube. People near the brothel suspected him to be the same man and informed the police patrol. The police caught him with Rs 2 lakh,” said a police officer from Khariar city police station.
Here the police is trying to find out who others are involved with him as he alone could not carry the cash from the place from where he left the vehicle as the box was heavy. “We are also verifying the fact whether the regular driver of the cash-carrying company had fever. Inquiries are on to find out whether any bank employee is involved in the act,” said Pandit.
