BHUBANESWAR: Ignoring the opposition’s uproar for his expulsion from the state council of ministers, Dibya Shankar Mishra Addressed a program organized by State PSU Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation Orissa (IPICOL) to woo investors in the textile sector.
The BJP continued its protest demanding his resignation over his links with Kalahandi teacher Mamita Meher’s murder accused Gobind Sahu and threatened to gherao SP offices on Tuesday and Wednesday to press for the demand.
Mishra, who holds the portfolios of industries other than MSME and Energy and is the Minister of State for Home, addressed a national level seminar on ‘Making Odisha Textile Hub of the East’ at Lok Seva Bhawan. Speculation was fueled by his absence at a public function addressed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Baripada on Friday, while the BJP and Congress used it to convey that Naveen shies away from sharing the stage with the minister.
Stating that Odisha has a long history of textiles and global trade, the pilot-turned-minister said, “We have over 1.5 lakh acres of land, which is ready for use by industries coming to Odisha”.
He said that the government has given priority to the textile sector and is seeking huge investments from major textile and apparel players. He appealed to the industry leaders to come to Odisha and said that the government is planning a special stimulus package in the textile and apparel sectors.
Union Textiles Secretary Upendra Prasad Singh also participated in the event with several leading national and global players like Shahi Exports, Aditya Birla Fashion, Page Industries and Wild Lotus.
