Odisha schools, colleges to reopen from February 7

With the COVID-19 situation improving in the state, the Odisha government has decided to reopen schools, colleges and other educational institutions from next week. Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra announced that physical classes will resume in schools for students of class VIII and above from February 7.

The state government has issued guidelines regarding the reopening of schools. Students studying in Class 7 to Kindergarten will be allowed to attend physical classes from February 14. Those who attend schools in physical mode will have to strictly follow the COVID norms.

“The decision to reopen schools, colleges and other educational institutions has been taken in view of the larger interest of the students. For the current academic year, students can choose to attend classes online or offline or in hybrid mode, promotion of students from KG to class 9 will be done on the basis of class assessment marks. The examinations of class X and XII will be conducted as per the guidelines issued by their respective boards and councils, examinations in higher education institutions including professional and technical institutions may be conducted as per the guidelines issued before the closure of the institutions. Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra said.

Colleges and technical institutions will reopen from February 7. Short-term training and skill development training centers will also reopen on this day as well as hostels attached to educational institutions and training centres. Everyone welcomes the decision to reopen schools.

Educationist Pritish Acharya said, “In view of the situation of Kovid, the state government has taken a good decision to reopen the school. It is time for the final exam and the start of a new session. It will be helpful for the students”

“We will strictly follow the guidelines of the state government in the school premises. After about two years, students will attend physical classes. Sai International School Principal Neelkanth Panigrahi said, “Safety of students is our top priority”.

Bhargava Nayak’s student said, “We are excited to reopen the school. We can clear our doubts and prepare for the final exam and next session.”

Schools and colleges have also been directed to conduct bridge and short term courses to compensate for the loss of students’ studies during the last two years. The Orissa High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to take a decision on reopening of schools within two months.
