Oil market still facing uncertainties due to COVID-19, says OPEC chief

OPEC Secretary General Mohamed Barkindo said the oil market is facing uncertainties arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic.

OPEC Secretary-General Mohamed Barkindo told reporters on the sidelines of an energy forum in Moscow on Thursday that the oil market is facing uncertainties stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The market is acting according to the fundamentals of supply and demand. But we must acknowledge that there are some external factors which are influencing the growth of the market,” he said.

About how COVID-19 is creating uncertainty, Barkindo pointed to “reactions by governments in the form of various forms, mutations emerging and the world has been able to increase vaccination rates, especially in developing countries”.
