The change in rules, which came just a day before Thursday’s Class 12 Hindi core and elective exams, led to confusion among teaching staff and principals.
In the circular issued by CBSE to the center superintendents, it has been said, “The process of evaluation on the same day in the examination center is being stopped from 16.12.2021. All center superintendents will pack and seal the OMR sheet in the presence of the invigilator within 15 minutes of the completion of the examination. The center superintendent and supervisor will sign the sealed parcel and mention the time of packing. Once the OMR is packed and sealed, it will be sent to the concerned Regional Office. When asked why the changes were brought in, CBSE’s controller of examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj did not respond.
With only seven subjects left in the Class 12th Class-I exam, many school principals questioned the need for last-minute changes and expressed surprise at the move.
“At first we thought the circular was fake. We keep getting new information and changes every morning,” said a principal on condition of anonymity.
A senior official told TOI that the changes were introduced after receiving feedback from stakeholders. “It is a dynamic process,” the official said.
In other changes implemented by the board on Wednesday, mails containing passwords will be sent to schools, followed by the operation code at 10.45 am.
“This effectively meant that the question papers would have to be printed in 15 minutes. Many principals protested because they have a large number of students appearing for the exams,” said a principal.
The CBSE circular said that the center superintendent shall ensure that the students appearing for the examination are present at the center by 10.45 am and if anyone reaches late, he should be properly searched.
“The schools should ensure that the question paper is printed within the stipulated period and accordingly, they should make arrangements for necessary equipment for printing,” the circular said.
