In the first match of the Indian domestic season in September 2022, Yashasvi Jaiswal opened for West Zone with a double century in the Duleep Trophy quarter-final against North East Zone.

Nearly seven months later, the stylish left-hander booked the season in style with scores of 213 and 144 in the final first-class match of the calendar as he helped Rest of India beat Madhya Pradesh in the Irani Cup here.

with goals in mind

“It is one of my best and most memorable innings,” Jaiswal said on Sunday. “But, this is just the beginning, I need to continue and achieve my goals,” he added.

After a promising start to the season, Jaiswal had a poor Ranji Trophy campaign and even missed two matches due to illness. Commenting on the season, Jaiswal said, “During the tournament, I fell ill with a stomach infection, and my father was also unwell. I wouldn’t say I was upset, but it was bothering me.

“During this time, Zubin (Bharucha) sir helped me come back strongly. I have been working with him for the last three years and he has always helped me not only in cricket but outside it as well.

With two hundreds in the last five days, Jaiswal has nine first-class hundreds in 15 matches along with his two half-centuries.

“I have been scoring big hundreds since my school days. I know how important each inning is; Once you’re set, scoring big is easy. If I get out early, I sit and think should I play there and how can it be done,” Jaiswal said.

vigorous preparation

Meanwhile, Bharucha, who heads the Rajasthan Royals Academy, briefed them about their preparation.

“Before this game, we trained in Mumbai for a few days where we got the fast bowlers to bowl with the new ball, where they just had to play on the on-side and leave the ball on the off-side. It was amazing to see him go and execute it,” said Bharucha.
