One of the players to watch in T20 World Cup: Ricky Ponting on India Star | cricket news

Rishabh Pant is currently leading Team India in the ongoing five-match T20I series against South Africa. In the first T20I played at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Thursday, India suffered a seven-wicket defeat even after posting 211/4 on the board. Pant, batting at number four, scored 29 runs in just 16 balls. Pant’s Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting has now looked at where Pant should bat and why he can be used as a floater.

In the recently concluded IPL, Pant batted at No. 4 or 5. Throughout the tournament, the left-handed batsman had a strike rate of over 151 and was also the second highest scorer for Delhi Capitals after David Warner.

“I think he would have that as a floater. They would have listed (him) at five in the batting order. But in some situations, if they get to a stage where there are seven-eight overs and they One or two are down, they’ll try to send him in and give him as much time as they can. He’s dynamic, and he’s explosive. That’s definitely the way I’ll try and use that,” Ponting said on ICC review

“He’s amazing… talk about great guys. He’s just an outstanding youngster who has put the world on its feet. He will be exceptionally dangerous for India, especially on the wickets we have in Australia ( Will prepare for T20 World Cup) – Nice, fast, flat, bouncy wickets. He will definitely be one of the players to watch in the tournament,” he added.

Asked how he would like to use Dinesh Karthik in the T20 squad, Ponting said: “I would have had him, and I would have had him in that five or six role. The way he ended up playing for RCB this year , he took his game to another level. When you look at the IPL, you want your better players to be able to win two or three, maybe four games during the season. If you get that out of them So maybe it’s going to be a really good comeback. But Dinesh probably had a bigger impact on a lot of games this year than other RCB players.

“Virat (Kohli) had the year, Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) started the tournament really well… nowhere in their (India) line-up,” he said.
