Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp said the COVID-19 outbreak forced the first leg of their League Cup semi-final against Arsenal last week to be postponed, with Trent Alexander-Arnold as the only confirmed case .
Liverpool told the English Football League to reschedule the game last Thursday due to a “serious outbreak”.
Liverpool beat third-tier Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday, with Klopp having to field four teenagers in the starting side.
“Last week we had a fair outbreak and it showed that we had a lot of false positives, but the rules are as they are, so all these players who got false positives, they couldn’t play,” Klopp told reporters.
“The only true positives came from Trent Alexander-Arnold and all the rest were false positives.”
Midfielder Fabinho scored twice, while Cade Gordon and Roberto Firmino also scored as Liverpool came to a goalless win on Sunday.
They will host Arsenal in the League Cup semi-finals on Thursday before the return leg on January 20 at the Emirates Stadium.
