Receiving the award, Kartiki said, “I stand here today to speak for the sacred bond between us and our natural world, respect for indigenous communities and empathy for other living beings, and ultimately coexistence.” Gonsalves said in his acceptance speech.
He then thanked the Academy, the short film’s producer Guneet Monga and his family, before dedicating the win to his “motherland India”.
