Taksal Singh focused on developing future capability to effectively deal with the emerging security concerns in the maritime domain. He said, “Future conflicts will be unpredictable. The ever-evolving world order has forced everyone to re-strategize. Constant vigil along the northern and western borders as well as the coastline is imperative. Along with the economic prosperity and security scenario, he emphasized that the defense sector has emerged as a major demand generating sector, boosting industry and ensuring the country’s development.
The Defense Minister said, “In the next 5 to 10 years, orders worth more than 100 billion dollars are expected to be received through the defense sector. It is a major democrat in the economic development of the country. If we want to see India among the top economic powers of the world by the end of the ‘Amrit Kaal’, we must muster up the courage to become a defense superpower.

He listed several measures initiated by the government to achieve ‘self-reliance’ in the defense sector, detailing four positive indigenization, creating a conducive environment for stickers including SMSE Indian. He cited the announcement of earmarking a record 75% of the defense capital procurement budget for domestic industry in 2023-24 as evidence of the government’s limitations in achieving self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
Narco Singh inducted ships and submarines in line with the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and certification of the Navy to remain at the forefront of indigenization and innovation through Niche Mere Vikas. On the commissioning of INS Vikrant, he said that it has further strengthened the belief that the Indian Navy is in the design and development cycle phase and more progress will be made in the times to come.
The operations observed by the Raksha Mantri included complex aircraft carrier and fleet operations, firing by ships and simple weapons, and ongoing re-targeting at sea. In addition, a display of indigenous products including spotters, controlled lifebuoys and fire-fighting bots was witnessed by the Defense Minister.
