Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur was bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 1.8 crore. Mumbai left no stone unturned to bid for the Indian skipper.

While RCB started the bidding, Delhi Capitals got into a fierce bidding war against RCB Capitals as it raised the pedal and took the bid to Rs 1.10 crore. Finally, Mumbai secured the services of the India skipper.

Later in the auction, MI acquired the services of international stars such as Nat Sciver-Brunt (England), Amelia Kerr (New Zealand), Puja Vastrakar (India), Yastika Bhatia (India), Heather Graham (Australia), Issey Wong (England), Hayley Matthews (West Indies), Chloe Tryon (South Africa).

The inaugural edition of the WPL will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26 at two venues in Mumbai and the players’ auction will be held on February 13.

The five franchises were acquired by the owners of the three IPL teams—Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals—as well as Adani Group and Capri Global for a total of Rs 4669.99 crore (about US$572.78 million). This marks the biggest deal ever in women’s cricket. The successful bidders were announced on 25 January.
