Rohit Sharma takes Mumbai Indians’ victory as a birthday gift on any given day and even more so when the team showed their mettle after eight consecutive defeats.
MI beat Rajasthan Royals by five wickets to register their first win of the season as they put up their best performance of the current edition on Saturday night.
“I will definitely take it,” said Rohit when asked if he ever thought it could be his birthday present.
Rohit said, “That’s how we play, the real potential came out today, especially with the ball. They kept building up the pressure. If you keep taking wickets, it will be difficult for them, we totally did it today.” His bowling unit.
He didn’t feel that the team combination was the reason for the loss so far this season.
“This is the team we have played in the first few matches except for some bowling changes. When you have a season like this, you are not sure of your combination. You want to try a lot of things.” Rohit admitted that the situation in Navi Mumbai is slightly different.
“Things are different. The ball gets caught here, the pitches are flat elsewhere. We try the best combination and it doesn’t work for eight matches.” The MI skipper feels it has been a season of near miss.
“But one thing I can say is that the opposition didn’t blow us away, we came really close. Had we won those games, things would have been a little different,” Rohit said.
