After being ruled out of the T20I series against India after being infected with COVID-19, Sri Lanka’s star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga’s isolation here has been extended as he returned another positive result for the virus.

A Sri Lanka Cricket release said, “Wanindu Hasaranga, who was in isolation after contracting COVID-19, has once again given a positive result when a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) was performed on the player yesterday. (22 February) was held.”

An RT-PCR test also confirmed the result.

Hasaranga was first tested positive during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on 15 February when the Sri Lankan team was playing a five-match T20I series in Australia.

The player was transferred from Canberra to Melbourne and will remain in isolation until he returns a negative PCR test report.

The leg-spinner was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for ₹10.75 crore in the IPL 2022 Mega Auction in Bengaluru last week.

The 24-year-old especially made an impression with the ball when India went to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series last July, taking three wickets and seven wickets in the second ODI – including 4 for 9. – Topped the bowling charts in three T20Is.

At the end of that series, Hasaranga was ranked second among T20I bowlers in the ICC rankings.
