Of the 11,120 cases identified for resolution through conciliation, 3,770 relate to motor vehicle accidents, 2,736 criminal cases and 4,548 check bounce cases are registered under the Negotiable Instruments Act, apart from 66 pre-litigation cases.
Shri Raghunath said that the litigants can approach the concerned court, District Legal Services Authority or Taluk Legal Services Authority for involving their cases in Lok Adalat so that the settlement can be done through amicable settlement.
Labor disputes, family welfare matters, domestic disputes, land acquisition matters, injunction matters can also be brought before Lok Adalat. During the previous Lok Adalat, several applications for issuance of birth certificates were approved, while several warring couples, who had sought divorce, were reconciled.
He said that the value of cases resolved through conciliation during Lok Adalat would be the same as any direction issued by the court. Also, settlement of cases through Lok Adalat will help litigants save money and time, as well as help in maintaining good relations with opposite litigants, he said, clarifying that against an award by Lok Adalat There is no option to appeal.
