New Delhi : 27,401 persons in the age group of 18-59 years have received their COVID precaution doses at private immunization centres. The booster dose campaign started from April 10 across the country.
According to the Health Ministry, the precautionary dose commonly known as the booster dose is a home vaccination protocol, i.e. the precautionary dose will be of the same vaccine that has been used for the administration of the first and second doses.
According to the government, a total of 27,401 preventive doses were given to people above 18 years of age. Of these, 6,190 booster doses were given to the population between the ages of 18–44 years, and a total of 21,211 people aged 45–59 years received booster shots.
In addition, around 45.50 lakh health workers, 70.39 lakh frontline workers and 1.29 crore elderly people above 60 years of age have received precautionary doses so far, taking the total number of booster doses to 2,45,63,013.
These beneficiaries are individuals who have been fully vaccinated and have completed 9 months of receiving their second dose and now, they are eligible for a precautionary dose commonly known as a booster dose.
The booster dose increases a person’s immunity to the disease he/she has received from its primary vaccination. More importantly, the booster dose awakens the memory cells in the body to produce more antibodies against the disease.
