Over 48 lakh bottles of liquor sold in Delhi on weekend before Diwali: Report

The cost of more than 48 lakh bottles of liquor On October 30, officials said that the weekend before Diwali saw sales of 100 crores in Delhi.

Though October 24 was a dry day in the national capital, people celebrated Diwali with pomp on Monday after two years of silent festivities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This led to heavy liquor sales across the city during the weekend from Friday to Sunday,” a senior excise department official said.

‘More than 48 lakh bottles were sold on Friday-Sunday, more than the price’ 100 crore before Diwali on October 24.”

As per the details, the average daily sale of liquor in Delhi is around 12.50 lakh bottles. Officials said that the price of more than 13.56 lakh bottles 30 lakh and about 15.09 lakh bottles were sold on Friday 32 lakh on Saturday

A record 19.42 lakh bottles were sold on the eve of Diwali 42 lakh was registered.

Earlier, the excise business in Delhi has been badly hit with the ongoing CBI probe into the Arvind Kejriwal government’s liquor policy and an alleged “scam” in its implementation.
