Over 8 lakh new girl students enrolled in schools in FY 2022: Government

According to the latest data released by the education ministry on Thursday, over 12.29 crore girls enrolled from primary to higher secondary in 2021-22. The data said that the enrollment of girls in FY 2022 saw an increase of 8.19 lakh in 2020-21.

The Ministry of Education on Thursday released a report on Integrated District Information System Education Plus 2021-22 on school education in India.

Further, the report said that the total number of Scheduled Caste (SC) students from primary to higher secondary has increased from 4.83 crore in FY 2022 to 4.78 crore in 2020-21.

Additionally, Scheduled Tribe (ST) students have increased from 2.49 crore to 2.51 crore and Other Backward Caste (OBC) students from 11.35 crore to 11.49 crore during 2020-21 and 2021-22.

However, schools in India saw a decline in the last financial year. Ministry of Education Said that the total number of schools in 2021-22 was 14.89 lakh as compared to 15.09 lakh in 2020-21. The ministry said the decline in total schools is mainly due to closure of private and other management schools and grouping/clustering of schools by different states.

The total students enrolled in school education from primary to higher secondary was 25.57 crore in 2021-22, registering an increase of 19.36 lakh enrollment as compared to 25.38 crore enrollment in 2020-21. In FY 2022, 95.07 lakh teachers were engaged in school education, of which more than 51% were women.

The data revealed that the total enrollment of Children with Special Needs (CWSN) in 2021-22 was 22.67 lakh, showing an improvement of 3.45% in 2020-21 as compared to 21.91 lakh in 2020-21.

Around 27.7% of schools in India had kitchen gardens in 2021-22. The Education Ministry said that there has been an improvement of 32% in comparison to the year 2018-19.

It said 33 per cent or 4.98 lakh schools have been certified under Fit India Schools.

In addition, around 77% of schools in India had playground facilities in 2021-22. It has improved by 3.4% as compared to the year 2018-19.
