Pakistan’s match against West Indies 1st T20I in Karachi On Monday, all eyes will be on the home team’s two brilliant openers. Captain Babar Azam and wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan formed the basis of Pakistan’s impressive campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup last month, which saw the team reach the semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Australia. Babar and Rizwan have both been in great form this year, and have been placed at the top of the run-scoring tree.
Rizwan currently leads the charts with 1123 runs in 26 matches at a strike rate of 131.19. The consistency with which he has scored runs can be gauged from the fact that he has scored a century and 10 half-centuries in the shortest format at the international level in 2021. While Rizwan is certain to finish at the top of the list and hold the record by the end of 2021, he should expect stiff competition from his captain Babar Azam.
Babar has scored 853 runs in T20Is in 2021 at a strike-rate of 126.55 in 26 matches, with a century and 8 half-centuries to his name.
While Rizwan is more than 200 runs away from Babar in the list, the Pakistani captain is not averse to playing big innings in the shortest format and can give Rizwan a run for his money.
It will be great for the Pakistani fans to see the two players clash as both the men will ultimately contribute to the team.
West Indies is touring Pakistan for three T20Is and three ODIs.
