Lahore: A college girl in Pakistan’s Punjab province was tortured and sexually assaulted for refusing to marry her friend’s father, who, along with others, cut off the teenager’s head and eyebrows and threatened to kill her if If he does so, the video of his humiliation will be uploaded on social media. Don’t pay him one lakh rupees. The shocking incident took place on August 8 in Faisalabad, about 150 km from Lahore.
A video of the incident surfaced on Tuesday in which the girl was seen being beaten up by the suspects, her head and eyebrows were shaved and she was forced to lick the suspects’ shoes. Police said they have arrested the prime suspect, Sheikh Danish, his daughter and five other suspects. “Police have arrested seven suspects including Danish and his daughter and raids are on to nab the remaining suspects,” a Punjab Police spokesperson said.
The victim lived with her aging mother and her two brothers live in the UK and Australia. Police have registered a case against 15 suspects under multiple sections of the Pakistan Penal Code for abduction, torture, extortion and sexual assault of a final year dental student girl.
In the FIR, the victim said that she and Danish’s daughter were friends and had family ties with Anna’s family. He said, “Anna’s father Sheikh Danish proposed marriage to me, but my family and I rejected the proposal. Danish was of my father’s age and when I told this to Anna, she lashed out at me. ”
The victim said that on August 8, when her brother returned from the UK, Danish and 14 of his companions came to her house and forced her brother to accept the marriage proposal.
When her brother turned down the offer, the suspect and his accomplices harassed the teenager and her brother and forcibly took them to Danish’s house where they again beat them up. The suspects forced the girl to lick Danish shoes, shaved her head and eyebrows and filmed her humiliation.
“The prime suspect (Danish) then took her to another room where he sexually assaulted her and recorded the act,” the FIR said. She said that the suspects also snatched their mobile phones, extorted Rs 500,000 and snatched gold jewelery worth Rs 450,000 from them.
The girl told the police that the suspects also demanded Rs 10 lakh and threatened to upload the video clip on social media if the amount was not paid. Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi has taken cognizance of the incident and directed the Punjab Police Chief to arrest all the suspects in the case and ensure that they are not innocent.
