Pant can’t be Dhoni: Fans disappointed by Rishabh Pant’s missed run-out chance vs Sri Lanka

India lost to Sri Lanka by six wickets in an Asia Cup 2022 Super Four match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, September 6.

The match went right over the wire with Sri Lanka needing seven runs to win in the last over. Arshdeep Singh bowled some lethal yorkers to the batsmen and made it difficult for Dasun Shanaka’s men to get out of line.

The match could have gone either way in the last two balls, but Sri Lanka looked to win with a ball to spare. Arshdeep bowls a delivery to Shanaka, which misses completely.

However, Shanaka took the opportunity to run a bye and Pant felt shame on the stumps at the striker’s end. But being disappointed, Pant did not get his target. After this, Arshdeep also had a chance to run out Shanaka at the non-striker’s end, but that too missed.

The ball went into long on region and Shanaka took the opportunity to take an extra run. After India lost their second match in the Super Four, fans remembered MS Dhoni’s presence in the middle.

Fans remember Dhoni’s epic run-out against Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 World Cup match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In that match, with Tigers needing two runs to win off the last ball, Dhoni ran to pick up the bails instead of running towards the stumps.

India won the match by one run and Dhoni received a lot of praise from the cricket fraternity.

Fans on social media reminisced about Dhoni after Pant failed to run out Shanaka in the final leg of the Super Four clash.

India’s last and final Super Four match is against Afghanistan on 9 September at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
