Tension prevailed outside Education Minister Sabita Indra Reddy’s residence in Srinagar Colony on Sunday as several parents of students of Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (IIIT Basar) staged a protest demanding resolution of pending issues.
The members of the parents’ committee, who used to deliberate on the issues in LB Nagar earlier in the day, later moved to Srinagar Colony, reportedly to hand over a representation to the minister.
However, sensing the tension, the police, already in large numbers, stopped the parents from proceeding. As a result, parents and relatives sat on the road, raising slogans and demanding action.
He said that three of the 12 demands promised by the minister for an immediate solution – teaching and subject experts, better housing facilities and healthy food – have still not been addressed.
The protesting parents were removed from the site and taken in a police van as they tried to move forward, even as the police said the minister was not present.
