Partha Chatterjee ‘non-cooperative’, not answering questions: ED official

Arrested West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee is “non-cooperating” with Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials as they have “not answered” most of their questions regarding the probe into the school job scam, an official of the Center agency said on Monday. “He has been non-cooperative with us since his arrest. He often complains of fatigue and avoids our questions. We have asked Chatterjee about his claims that the money is not his, so we are looking for the source of the money. Chatterjee, who was at the center of the multi-crore school job scam, on Sunday claimed that the money recovered during the ED’s raids did not belong to him, and only time will tell who “conspired” against him.

According to a central agency official, around Rs 50 crore in cash along with gold was recovered from the apartment belonging to Arpita Mukherjee, one of Chatterjee’s close associates. During interrogation, Mukherjee also claimed that huge amount of cash and jewelery were recovered from his two flats. The ED official said the agency again launched a search operation at his flat in the northern part of the city on Monday evening. They also collected CCTV footage of his high-end apartment, “to find out who used to come there”, he said.

In fact, the ED officials on Monday summoned the secretary of the resident union of the Belghoria housing complex where the woman has two flats. Meanwhile, the ED has also started searching for the GST number found from him. “She has used one GST number to run a beauty parlor business, but there is another number which is not associated with any business. We are trying to find out if it was made illegally to save tax. The official claimed that the central agency is planning to simultaneously interrogate Chatterjee and his close associates on Tuesday. Chatterjee was arrested by the ED on July 23 in connection with its probe into alleged irregularities in the school job scam. Chatterjee had the education portfolio when the scam was reportedly withdrawn. The ED is probing the money trail involved in the scam.

On the recommendations of another central agency CBI, West Bengal School, as directed by the Calcutta High Court, is probing alleged irregularities in recruitment of Group-C and -D employees as well as teachers in government-sponsored and aided schools. Service Commission.
