‘Patently untrue’: MoS Jitendra Singh rubbishes claims of Telangana CM being ‘humiliated’ by PMO

Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh slammed Telangana Chief Minister’s son KT Rama Rao, who has reportedly claimed that his father was asked to stay away from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programs in Hyderabad. Singh took to Twitter to hit out at Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his son, saying it was “absolutely untrue”.

“According to some media reports, Telangana CM’s son has claimed that the PMO has sent a message that Mr KCR should not be a part of PM’s programs when he visited Hyderabad. This is clearly untrue. No such message was sent by the PMO,” tweeted Singh.

When the Prime Minister visited the state capital, explaining his father’s absence at two major events, Rama Rao had said that in both the cases the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had already sent a message which said Was told that the Chief Minister “should not come”.

Singh’s stand on the matter was different from that of Rama Rao. Referring to PM Modi’s visit to Hyderabad on February 5, the MoS said that the Chief Minister’s Office had sent a message to the PMO that KCR is unwell and will not attend the event.

“In fact, the Telangana chief minister was expected to attend the events on February 5 when the PM went to Hyderabad. It was the CM’s office that informed the PMO that the CM’s health was unwell and hence he would not attend,” Singh tweeted.

The Telangana chief minister was absent for the inauguration of Ramanujacharya’s Statue of Equality in February, for which he was heavily criticized. He did not even receive or host PM Modi when he reached Hyderabad for the event. He was also absent when Modi visited Bharat Biotech in November last year.

Many critics had termed KCR’s absence from these events as a “gross violation of protocol”. But, Rama Rao protested, saying that the PMO “insulted” and “humiliated” the Chief Minister by not inviting him to these events. “Isn’t this a breach of protocol on the part of the PMO and an insult to the chief minister by a prime minister? Isn’t that an insult?” he asked.

He also accused Union Minister Piyush Goyal of making fun of the state. Rama Rao had said that the Union Ministers as well as the Prime Minister continued to insult Telangana despite being a “performing state”.
