Petrol and diesel prices remained stable for almost two months now except in Maharashtra on 18 July. Last week, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde announced a reduction in VAT on petrol by Rs 5 per liter and on diesel by Rs 3 per liter. Oil marketing companies continue to sell fuel to the rest of the cities at the same price.
On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced reduction of excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 per liter and Rs 6 per liter respectively. Today the price of petrol in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per liter and the price of diesel is Rs 89.62 per liter. After the recent VAT cut, the price of petrol in Mumbai is now Rs 106.31 per liter as against Rs 111.35 per liter, while the price of diesel is now Rs 94.27 per liter as against Rs 97.28 per litre in Mumbai.
