“Phir Mila Dhokha” : Bhopal Gas Tragedy Victims On Supreme Court Verdict

Rashida Bi has lost seven members of her family in this accident. In a conversation with NDTV at his Bhopal home, he said that his health was constantly affected due to the gas leak. He said, “Health problems are continuing, my brother was admitted to the hospital today. The court’s decision is unjust.”

Nineteen alleged that the petition to the Bhopal affair was denied its day in court because of “pro-corporate bias”. “Adequate time was given to the counsel for the union official, but the counsel for the commission was heard only for 45 minutes,” he added.

The Center had sought an additional balance of Rs 7,844 crore from the successor firms of the irregulars. In 1989, a grant of Rs 715 crore was returned. The Center had argued that the scale of damage to human lives and the environment could not be expected at the time of the settlement.

However, the court noted that the Center has not given any reason to raise the issue so far. Senior advocate Greenesh Salve, representing the successor firms of Union Irregular, told the court that the depreciation of the rupee since 1989 cannot be the basis for seeking “top-up” of compensation.

Shehzadi, who survived the accident, said, ‘There was a betrayal in 1989. This is again a hoax.

Regarding the statement of survivors, Balkrishna Namdev, president of an organization, has questioned that when the people affected by the gas claim disaster are continuously dying and suffering, then how the court case can be covered.

Unni said, “When criminals remain accused and their children continue to suffer with prejudice, how can the injustice being done on the Supreme Court bench be covered up?”

Warren Anderson, president of the unlisted union, was the main accused in the case, but did not appear for documents. He was declared a proclaimed offender in 1992 by a Bhopal court. Two non-bailable warrants were issued before his death in 2014. And on June 7, 2010, a Bhopal court sentenced seven officials of Union Right India Limited to two years imprisonment.
