Piaggio to launch new Vespa, Aprilia scooters in India

To celebrate its 25th anniversary in India, Piaggio will launch new scooters under the Vespa and Aprilia brands. This will involve not only facelift of existing models, but also the introduction of new models, some of which will be powered by brand-new, larger-displacement engines.

The entire line-up of Aprilia and Vespa scooters will now be powered by a new, high-performance i-GET engine that offers better acceleration and braking capabilities.

The Aprilia SR range will get a new Typhoon variant, which the company says is aimed at aspiring racers. The company plans to launch a new Vespa Touring Edition designed for “explorers and makers” to be able to carry tools and luggage. There will also be a new version of the Vespa in dual-tone colors aimed at the younger audience. New color options will also be available in the existing line of Vespas.

Diego Graffi, CMD, Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, believes that the company now understands the Indian market very well and has reached a point where the two-wheeler market is ready to be divided into different segments.
