PIL in Delhi HC accuses GNCTD schools of providing only 2 hours of education, affecting 1 lakh students – Times of India

New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court has stated that the students studying in some of the Government of NCT of Delhi (GNCTD) schools in the North East District region are following the pattern of the teaching system i.e. either only two Providing education. Teaching on daily instructional hours or alternate days affecting the education of more than one lakh students.
Petition seeking direction to the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi to provide full time education to the students studying in SKV Khajuriq, sbv khajuriq, GGSSS Sonia Vihar, GBSSS Sonia Vihar, GGSSS Khajuri, GBSSS Karawal Nagar And GGSSS Sabhapur and other schools in Tukbirpur, Karawal Nagar, etc., with reference to the provision of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.
The petition has been filed by Social Justice, a civil rights group, which states that it is the duty of the respondent government schools to provide education to the students in accordance with the norms and standards schedule to the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Do it. , 2009 i.e. minimum working days 200 and minimum 800 teaching hours for classes I to V in an academic year and 220 working days and 1000 teaching hours for classes VI to VIII.
Advocates Ashok Agrawal and Kumar Utkarsh, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the impugned action/inaction is tainted by law and would discourage the students to continue their studies.
The petition further states that on an average 5000-6000 students are enrolled in each school, thus around 1 lakh students enrolled in these schools are facing more or less similar situation. It is indeed a worrying situation where our marginalized students are not getting the full attention of the Delhi Government in the matter of their education.
The petitioner claimed that vide letter dated 05.09.2022 and 12.09.2022, it requested the Chief Minister of the Government of NCT of Delhi and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi to take immediate remedial steps to safeguard the education and future of lakhs of students studying in these has done. There is no reply yet on the schools.
