New Delhi Air India pilots, who threatened to go on strike, have decided to meet aviation secretary Rajiv Bansa, who is also the airline’s chairman and managing director (CMD), before deciding on their final move.
The pilots also warned of ‘industrial action’ if their concerns over pay cuts were not addressed and dues were not cleared before handing over the airline to its new owner.
The Indian Pilots Guild, or IPG (the airline’s Boeing Pilots Union) tweeted on Sunday: “Talks with management with Pilot Indian are inconclusive about 60% pay cut only for licensed employees. Meeting to find a peaceful solution Management (CMD/Sector MoCA) tomorrow. @MoCA_GoI @TataCompanies @RNTata2000#peaceful resolution.”
On November 29, the pilots gave a three-day ultimatum to the Air India management to meet their demands.
In a letter to Bansal, Airbus Union, the Indian Commercial Pilots Guild and IPG, which represents over 900 pilots, said that all related issues relating to “illegal” pay cuts should be addressed within three days, or They will demand justice through industrials. Work.
After this the management contacted the pilots and held a meeting.
Since October, pilots’ unions have been demanding remedial measures, but have not received a response. He said they were burdened with an “illegal pay cut” of 55% and demanded payment as per market standards. Referring to their long-standing issues with the disinvestment of the national carrier, the pilots demanded that the management should clear all dues, including 25%. Details of arrears including interest, gratuity, and option of leave encashment and medical benefits for all permanent employees.
Pilots said a meeting with representatives of both the unions on December 3 was inconclusive. “The management was informed that we are aware of Air India’s revenue going back to pre-Covid levels and most of the pilots are working more than they were pre-Covid. Management told us to wait till the acquisition. However, both the unions have warned of dire consequences if the issues are not resolved.”
