Planning to buy a used Maruti Suzuki Swift? Here are the things you should consider first

Maruti Suzuki Swift is undoubtedly one of the most popular cars in India. First launched in 2005, the compact hatch has spent 17 years in the Indian market and has seen two generations of upgrades. It is one of the best selling cars in the country with an average of over 15,000 units sold every month. The car is equally popular in the used car space, and you’ll probably find thousands of listings online. So, if you too are planning to get a used Maruti Suzuki Swift, then here are some advantages and disadvantages that you should consider first.

Maruti used to offer the Swift with a 1.3-litre diesel engine, which was one of the best diesel engines in its segment.

Pros:

  1. Swift is a very capable car. It’s compact, fun-to-drive, and some newer versions of the car even come with a variety of creature comforts. And with Maruti’s strong service network and cost-effective parts, long term is not a problem.
  2. Maruti used to offer the Swift with a 1.3-litre diesel engine, which was one of the best diesel engines in its segment. While now the car is only a petrol model, you can still get one in the used car market. The petrol version is also quite peppy and fun to drive.
  3. Maruti Suzuki cars are well priced, and even if you decide to sell your cars after 3-4 years, you are sure to get good returns.

The old Maruti Suzuki Swift was quite outdated in terms of looks and quality and did not have too many good creature comforts.

Shortcoming:

  1. Features like projector headlamps, LED DRLs, sporty alloys, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and auto climate control – all were offered with the third-gen car. And a used third-gen won’t be cheap either. A new Swift 3-4 years old will cost you anywhere between Rs. 6 lakh to Rs. 8 lakhs.
  2. Swift has never received a satisfactory safety rating from the Global NCAP. While the new-gen model gets a 2-star rating, the previous-gen model has also received a zero-star rating.
  3. The new Swift certainly looks premium, not the best when it comes to space. Whereas the old model was quite old in terms of looks and quality and did not get very good creature comforts.
