(The 2021 Royal Enfield Classic 350 is better in every aspect. Comes with better engine refinement, better dynamics, and more features and color options)
professionals
- The new engine, which delivers improved, refined performance. The 349 cc, single-cylinder engine produces 20.2 bhp at 6,100 rpm and 27 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The compression ratio has changed from 8.5:1 on the UCE 350 engine to 9.5:1 on the new 350 cc SOHC engine. With the SOHC system the cam gears have been replaced with timing chains, resulting in less noise and more efficient valve timing. The chain primary drive has been replaced with a gear primary drive, which minimizes transmission losses, and the primary balancer shaft reduces vibration on the engine.
- The new suspension offers better ride quality, and the dual-cradle chassis offers better dynamics. Overall, the new Classic 350 offers the rider better stability and more confidence, and a smoother and more comfortable ride than the outgoing model. Suspension now includes a 41 mm front fork, with more travel on the dual rear shocks to offer a better ride.
(RE Classic 350 has been the best selling model for Royal Enfield for more than 10 years now)
- The 19-inch front and 18-inch wheels are also thicker, with thicker rubber, with a 100mm front section tire and a 120mm section rear tire. The brakes now get bigger discs (300 mm front, 270 mm rear) and better calipers as compared to the outgoing model. Alloy wheels with tubeless tyres have been given on the Dark variant.
- The ground clearance of the new generation model gets increased from 35mm to 170mm. The curb weight remains the same, 195kg, which is still 4kg lighter than the Meteor 350.
Shortcoming
(The new Classic 350 gets shod with better brakes, bigger discs, thicker 41mm front forks, new wheels that are wider, and wider tyres. Braking performance still leaves a bit to be desired)
- The design of the new-gen Classic 350 is still similar to that of the outgoing model, which may be a deterrent for some buyers, who may upgrade from the older model to the newer model. A slight difference in design between the old and new models could have worked better.
- While the instrument console of the new motorcycle includes a fuel gauge, it still misses a gear position indicator and distance to empty reading, which are now offered on most motorcycles in the segment.
(The instrument console misses the blank reading and distance to the gear position indicator)
- Considering it a global product, it may lack top-end performance for use on highways and freeways in some western markets. A bump in top-end performance to 10 kmph is certainly welcome.
- The braking on the new Classic 350 is not as powerful as it should be. The bite is lacking and the experience isn’t enough.
