Indian women’s hockey team head coach Janneke Schopman has been named for the FIH Women’s Team Coach of the Year award.
Indian women’s hockey team head coach Janke Schopman is delighted to see her team apply her learnings from the FIH Pro League, FIH Women. World Cup and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, and hopefully the players will aim to improve individually going forward.
Schopman said she is honored to be nominated for the FIH Women’s Team Coach of the Year Award.
“The debut season of the FIH Pro League was a very valuable experience for the team. We played consistently with good teams over a period of five months. We identified the aspects where we did really well and the aspects that we needed to improve. I was happy with the way the girls implemented their learnings from the FIH Pro League, FIH Women’s World Cup and Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. The bronze medal at CWG was very special to me,” said Schopman.
When asked about the team’s goals in the future, the coach said, “We are doing a thorough evaluation of the team at the moment. Players are also looking at their own individual games and looking at aspects in which they can be better. We need to take our game to the next level to be a more dangerous and consistent team.”
The coach said that his nomination for the FIH award is a confirmation that his team has improved a lot in the last one year.
“It is a great honor to be nominated for the FIH Women’s Team Coach of the Year Award. It is a recognition of how hard the girls have worked and shown over the past few months. As a coach you are only as good as your team. This nomination means girls have done well throughout the year and we are on the right track.”
