Underlining that the country cannot tolerate a new outbreak of COVID infection, the PM called upon district magistrates to visit villages, localities and even homes to trace those who are still illiterate or Whose second dose is overdue. Soon after returning from his trip to Italy and Scotland, the Prime Minister held a review meeting with more than 40 districts with low vaccination coverage.

Emphasizing on the need to ensure that the first dose is given to the illiterate, PM Modi urged the officials to pay equal attention to the second dose coverage as well and find all those who missed their schedule. Responding to concerns raised by districts about rumors of hesitation to vaccinate, the PM suggested that awareness is the only solution and asked officials to take help of religious leaders.
The meeting included districts with less than 50% coverage of the first dose as well as districts with less coverage of the second dose covid vaccine. The PM interacted with district magistrates including Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya and others with low vaccination coverage.
The PM also asked the officials to devise and develop micro strategies keeping in view the experience so far for saturation coverage of immunizations by addressing the deficiencies at the local level. He also asked the officials to prepare a zone wise time table for local targets. He suggested the officers to make specific strategies for each village, each city, if needed. “You have to do your best to take your districts closer to the national average,” the PM said.
The district magistrates gave details of the challenges faced by their districts, which have resulted in low vaccination coverage.
The PM said that religious leaders are very excited about the vaccination campaign and urged them to lay special emphasis on taking their message to the masses. He also asked the officials to conduct door-to-door investigations, from making arrangements for the safe transportation of people to the vaccination centers.
