New Delhi: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has increased the respect of the Indian diaspora abroad.
“The world is looking towards the Indian diaspora with great hope and expectation and it is high time that they too rise to the occasion and contribute to the welfare of the entire mankind in the true spirit of the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. As given by PM Modi during India’s G20 chairmanship.”
Jitendra Singh was speaking to the Indian diaspora here as part of his 6-day visit to the United Kingdom, where he is leading a high-level official Indian delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology to enhance S&T cooperation between India and the United Kingdom are doing. ,
Interacting with the overseas Indians, the minister said that the Indian diaspora should try to channelize their resources to support important initiatives taken by the government in India.
He asserted that India is on the path of transformation and stressed the importance of science and technology in economic growth and rising living standards.
Sharing some of India’s major achievements in science and technology, such as the huge jump in India’s ranking on the Global Innovation Index (GII) from 81st in 2015 to 40th in 2022, 3rd in terms of numbers among 132 economies of the world Ranked Startups, Unicorns, Scientific Publications and PhD awarded, Singh said India has made some phenomenal progress in S&T sectors in recent years.
He mentioned that in the recent past, the government has launched several major initiatives such as the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber Physical Systems (ICPS); Quantum Computing and Communications; National Mission on Supercomputing, Electric Mobility, Green Hydrogen etc.
Talking about startups, Jitendra Singh said that India has emerged as the third largest global start-up ecosystem, which is growing at an annual rate of 12-15% and has around 90,000 startups.
