New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said there is a need to take the COVID-19 vaccination campaign door-to-door and asked officials in low-vaccinated districts to adopt innovative ways to boost the campaign.
Modi made the remarks at a meeting held through video conferencing, with district magistrates of over 40 districts having low vaccination coverage.
Pointing out that he recently met Pope Francis in Vatican City, the Prime Minister said that there is a need to lay special emphasis on the message of religious leaders to spread awareness and encourage the vaccination campaign to the people.
He urged the district authorities to take the help of local religious leaders to spread awareness about COVID-19 vaccines and fight rumours.
Modi stressed that there is a need to adopt innovative methods to increase immunization in low coverage districts.
He said, “Till now you have been working to take people to the vaccination centers, now the time has come to reach every home and work with ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ campaign.”
Ensure that the first dose is given to unvaccinated people, but pay equal attention to the second dose, the Prime Minister told officials.
The districts noted in the meeting were those with less than 50 percent coverage of the first dose and low coverage of the second dose.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, 40 districts are spread over other states including Jharkhand, Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Meghalaya.
The Chief Ministers of the states including Uddhav Thackeray of Maharashtra and Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh were present in the meeting.
Prime Minister Modi held the meeting soon after returning from abroad after attending the G20 and COP26 meetings.
