With Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 21 years as the head of governments, including the Gujarat chief minister, on Friday, BJP leaders lauded his leadership and “selfless service to the nation”.
Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav tweeted, “On this day, 21 years ago PM Narendra Modi ji embarked on a journey of impeccable and selfless service to the nation. Since taking over as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, Mr. Modi has been driving a paradigm shift in governance that is building a stronger and more confident India. Another minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Modi has served people with compassion and utmost dedication through policies of financial and social inclusion that have “changed” lives and livelihoods.
He said that these 21 have been “glory years of visionary leadership”. Modi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on the same day in 2001 and led the BJP to victory in three consecutive assembly elections before the party’s campaign won the first majority in Parliament in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. After this, he led the party to a big victory in 2019.
