Ahmedabad (Gujarat) [India]Dec 1 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid floral tributes at the statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose during his roadshow in Ahmedabad.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a massive roadshow in Ahmedabad ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections.

People gathered on both sides of the road through which the Prime Minister’s convoy was passing. People showered flowers on his convoy. The crowd carrying their posters were raising slogans of “Modi… Modi..”. The Prime Minister was also seen greeting people and shaking hands.

After a gap of two days, Prime Minister Modi has once again returned to the Gujarat election campaign. His three-hour mega roadshow is spread across 16 assembly constituencies for the second phase of assembly elections.

Covering a distance of over 50 kms, the roadshow started from Naroda Gam and will end in Gandhinagar South constituency. PM Modi is scheduled to make at least 35 stops at memorials of prominent personalities including Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on the way.

Thakkarbapanagar, Bapunagar, Nikol, Amraiwadi, Maninagar, Danilimbada, Jamalpur Khadia, Ellisbridge, Vejalpur, Ghatlodiya, Naranpur, Sabarmati are some of the constituencies that the Prime Minister is covering in his roadshow.

Interestingly, while the Prime Minister was campaigning for the second phase of the Gujarat elections, the voting for the first phase of the Gujarat elections was underway.

Modi has been the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014.

In the 2017 Gujarat elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 99 of the total 182 seats. The party has been in power for the last 27 years and Narendra Modi has been the longest serving chief minister of the state.

This time, under the leadership of PM Modi, Amit Shah and CR Patil, the party is aiming to get its biggest seat of more than 140.

The state has long been a BJP bastion and the party is eyeing a return to power for a seventh term.

Meanwhile, polling for the first phase of the two-phase Gujarat Assembly elections ended at 5 pm on Thursday with a total voter turnout of 56.75 per cent. Voting is being held in 89 constituencies spread over 19 districts of Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat.

BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Bhupendra Patel contested from Ghatlodia seat. Among the prominent candidates, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief ministerial candidate Isudan Gadhvi contested from Khambhalia, former Congress leader and BJP candidate Hardik Patel from Viramgam, former Congress leader and now BJP candidate Alpesh Thakor from Gandhinagar South.

AAP State President Gopal Italia from Katargam Constituency, Gujarat Home Minister (State) Harsh Sanghvi from Majura, Rivaba Jadeja from Jamnagar North, Former Gujarat Minister Purushottam Solanki from Bhavnagar Rural, Kunvarji Bavaliya from Jasdan, Kantilal Amritiya contested from Morbi and Jayesh Radadia contested from Jetpur. ,

The second phase of elections in Gujarat will be held on December 5.

The counting of votes will take place on December 8. The results of the Himachal Pradesh assembly elections will also be declared on the same day. (ANI)
